ipoh-run456It will be a real run for the money this July 1 when 13,000 professional, amateur, and wannabe athletes take to the road for the 17th Ipoh International Run.

The Ipoh City Council (MBI) which organises the annual event boasts cash for winners totaling RM96,750 while 1,600 medals await the eligible ones from 11 categories.

With participants from United States, United Kingdom, and Germany, it’s not going to be an easy task reaching for the cash prizes though.

“Last year we also had participants from US, UK and Germany among the 196 foreigners for the run," Ipoh Mayor Datuk Roshidi Hashim said.

He said the council will also be introducing a new “fun run” category across 5km which also offer good prizes winners?

“The winners for this category will not receive medals or cash prizes, but the five best-dressed runners will stand a chance to walk home with a list of prizes while 10 other winners who top the category will win hampers,” he told the reporters during a press conference in Ipoh.

Among the 11 categories are the 21km, 10km and 7 km runs.

The event which complements the Visit Perak Year 2012 will also see athletes from neighboring Thailand and Singapore, competing in various categories.

Roshidi also hopes more students participate through their schools and he said the top three schools with the highest number of participants would win cash prizes.

The closing date for registration is June 25. Further details can be obtained from its Organising Secretariat at +605-2422743
